From SEO Beginner to SEO Expert- My Journey
It all started with a love of computers. I was 12 years old, and my parents got me my first computer. From that moment on, I was hooked. I started learning how to program, build websites, and compete in computer competitions.
As my skills grew, I became interested in Optimization. It was 1999, and SEO wasn't nearly as popular as it is today. However, the concept of optimizing a website for search engines intrigued me. So I did some research and found out that there were actually jobs available that involved SEO. In August of 1999, I took the plunge and applied for an entry level position at Net Marketing – one of the first full time SEO jobs in existence.
During my time at Net Marketing, I learned a lot about SEO techniques and how to solve problems for people when it came to search engine optimization (SEO). Each search engine had its own algorithm back then so it required managing 30 different templates for each keyword or phrase you wanted to rank for. Knowing how to solve problems quickly became more important than finding nuances across multiple search engines in order to exploit them successfully.
In 2003, after working at Aeon (a Fortune 500 Company) for two years, I left to start my own company called Will Reynolds Digital Marketing Solutions LLC where we continue providing world-class SEO services today! Along the way, I've managed to help countless businesses achieve their desired online presence through effective SEO practices.
From Corporate to Creative- From Seer to Savvy SEO Professional
If you're like me, you've always wanted to be at the forefront of your industry. And for me, that means being a savvy SEO professional. However, the competitive landscape has made it difficult for new professionals to break into the industry. That's why I decided to quit my job and embark on a new journey as an entrepreneur.
My cousin's hospital visit was the catalyst that inspired me to start my own business. After witnessing firsthand how sick children can be made whole by just having a little fun and laughter, I knew that I had to do something about it. So, I started volunteering by playing with sick children from 6 9pm on Wednesdays. After trying this out for two years, I realized that no company would ever hire me due to my lack of experience in the SEO field (Back in 2000s, getting into search engine optimization was seen as very visionary).
Thankfully, fate stepped in when Peter Madden from Agile Cat reached out to me and asked if I wanted to join his team as an SEO consultant. At first, I was reluctant – after all, this is not what I thought becoming an entrepreneur would entail! But after some convincing from Peter and some research into my competition (which revealed that they were all doing SEO work on behalf of their clients), I decided that Seer was the right name for my fledgling business venture.
The current job market for experienced SEO professionals is great! In fact, according to Indeed there are currently over 120 open positions listed across North America alone! If you're looking for a career change or want to take your skills up a notch then learning how to do SEO is definitely the way forward!
